LADIES DAY 2008
We had a pretty good crowd and decent
weather for this year's Ladies Day. Sponsored by the Southeast
Idaho Practical Shooters and taught by the Upper Snake River NRA
Instructors, this annual event provides free firearms training to women
in the Idaho Falls area. After spending the morning in the
classroom, the students and instructors went to the SEIPS range west of
town for a shooting session. The session started with a demo of
the kind of accuracy students would be able to achieve after today's
training. The target shown above contains two holes from .38
Special bullets and many other holes from a 20 guage shotgun firing #3
buckshot - an illustration of the ballistic superiority of the
shotgun. The students fired at similar targets, first with .22
pistols and then with a centerfire handgun. Once a group was
achieved on the larger piece of paper, the students shot at the smaller
targets on the target backer.
Here are some pictures from today's class.
One of the highlights of today's class
was the opportunity for the students to fire an actual Cowboy Action
Shooting stage (targets shown below) and also an International
Defensive Pistol Association (IDPA) stage. Students were
encourage to take part in the many competitive events held at the SEIPS
and other local ranges.
Thanks go to the SEIPS club for sponsoring this class and to the Upper
Snake River NRA Instructors, many of whom are SEIPS members, for
teaching the class. Special thanks go to instructors Frank,
Ginger, Lou, Sandy, Kevin, Zeb, Clem, Jay, Jim, John, Larry, and Rex
for volunteering their time to make this a safe and fun day for the
women of our community.
