Each year the South Eastern Idaho
Practical Shooters (SEIPS) offers a
free basic handguns skills
class to the first 24 women who sign up. The class was held on
Saturday June 30. We had 18 students. Some of the students
who were turned away after 24 applications will have a chance to take
similar training on July 5th. The instructor staff for the class
was organized by the Upper Snake River NRA Instructors. The chief
instructor was Virginia Wright of Rigby, and she was assisted in
planning the class by Kim Maskalenko from San Diego. Both Ginger
and Kim are NRA trainers with extensive experience in teaching handgun,
rifle, shotgun, range safety and other firearms classes. SEIPS
club members and other NRA instructors served as classroom trainers,
line coaches on the range, and helped in demonstrating several shooting
sports that can be enjoyed with the basic skills learned in the Women's
Day class. Here are some pictures from the class.
We were very glad to be able to use
the classroom where several of our instructors also teach Hunter
Education.
Sandy and Randy begin the class on
marksmanship with a "dominant eye" determination exercise.
Sandy coaches Maren, watching the gun
rather than the target to see how the shooter is aiming and pressing
the trigger.
Sandy and Kevin demonstrate Cowboy
Action Shooting.
Sandy, Rex, Kat, and Dennis were all
there to help the students.
